For the first time in history: para-snowboarding on the slopes of Rosa Khutor
On March 14 para-snowboarding competitions for the first time in the history of the Paralympic Winter Games took place at the alpine ski resort “Rosa Khutor”.
All participants — 33 men and 12 women — competed in the new Olympic alpine ski discipline in the standing category. The undisputable leaders among men became American athletes, who finally took all three podium spots: Evan Strong, Michael Shea and Keith Gabel (the first, second and third places, respectively). Russian athletes actively participated in the competition: Alexander Ilinov, Igor Ivanov, Kirill Finkelman. Among Russian athletes Alexander Ilinov showed the best result achieving the 27th position in the medal standings.
Prize medals among women were distributed as follows: Bibian Mentel-Spee representing the Netherlands won the gold medal, France's Cecile Hernandez Ep Cervellon took silver, American medalist, Amy Purdy took bronze. Russian athletes didn’t participate in this kind of competition.
