Competition season 2012/2013 is officially over at Rosa Khutor ski resort
A year before the beginning of the XXII Winter Olympic and XI Winter Paralympic Games 2014 in Sochi, Rosa Khutor ski resort has successfully welcomed eleven big Russian and international tournaments in Alpine skiing, snowboard and freestyle, as well as training events of the national teams of Russia, which are included into the combined calendar plan of Ministry of Sports of the Russian Federation.
In the period of January 22 – March 23 the total number of competitions held at Rosa Khutor was 62 out of the 76 scheduled – these numbers are comparable to the Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games of 2014. Fourteen of the scheduled competitions, including slopestyle, were cancelled by the decision of the FIS representatives and organizers of the competitions due to unfavorable weather conditions.
The main competitions of the season were Snowboard and Freestyle FIS World Cup Stages, held in the Rosa Khutor Extreme park on the 8 – 20th of February. It was the first time ever in the world when competitions in all Olympic snowboard and freestyle disciplines were held at the same time. It was also the first international competitions of such a level held in the Rosa Khutor Extreme Park. More than 750 athletes from 45 countries took part in them. In the beginning of March, Rosa Khutor Extreme Park hosted international tournament in para-snowboard – Winter Paralympic Games of 2014 will be the first time when this discipline is included into the program of the competitions.

The Olympic slopes of the Rosa Khutor Alpine center hosted a stage of the Championship of Russia in Alpine Skiing, a European Cup Final in Alpine skiing, and Paralympic competitions – Championship of Russia in Alpine Skiing among athletes with physical and visual impairment. On the 6 – 11th of March, IPC World Cup Final in Alpine Skiing was held on the slopes of Rosa Khutor resort.
In total almost 1800 athletes participated in the pre-Olympic competitions held at Rosa Khutor ski resort. 35 km of safety nets were installed and 43 snowmobiles were used for the purpose of the competitions, 27 snow grooming machines were used to prepare the slopes, 10 lifts took athletes and organizers to the stadiums. 650 foreign and Russian specialists were engaged in the preparation of the slopes for the European Cup Final.
All the competitions held at Rosa Khutor resort received a lot of positive feedback from athletes, representatives of sports delegations and the press.
The test events of 2012/2013 at Rosa Khutor became a final rehearsal of the Alpine part of the Olympics-2014 and showed that the resort is already capable of hosting any tournament of the highest level. Less than in a year Rosa Khutor resort will host competitions in Alpine skiing, freestyle and snowboard during the XXII Winter Olympic Games, where 30 sets of medals in 15 sports disciplines will be awarded; as well as competitions in Alpine skiing, freestyle and snowboard in the framework of the XI Winter Paralympic Games where 32 sets of medals in 6 sports disciplines will be awarded.
Rosa Khutor ski resort is an all year round resort in the Krasnaya Polyana area. It has the biggest skiing area in Russia – there are 72 km of ski runs of different levels of difficulty in 2013/2014 season, after 2014 there will be about 100 km of ski runs. 13 km of ski runs are certifiedby FIS to hold international competitions of the highest level.
One of the biggest venues of the Olympics-2014 in Sochi where 30 sets of medals will be awarded in 15 sports disciplines (Alpine skiing, snowboard, freestyle).
The name “Rosa Khutor” originates from the geographical name of the plateau which occupies about 1820 hectares on the Aibga ridge and rises from the Mzymta river.
