Rosa Khutor resort is getting ready for the Olympic season
The 2012/2013 winter season is over at Rosa Khutor ski resort. More than 73 000 tourists visited the resort, 1800 athletes took part in the competitions held on its slopes.
The season was full of bright and extraordinary events, which became not just a part of Rosa Khutor’s history, but true milestones in Russian and international sports history.
The remarkable show organized to celebrate the opening of the resort in December 2012 will be remembered by a lot of those who love active lifestyle. The guests elected a new Rosa Khutor Mayor by direct open ballot – it turned out to be a famous Russian athlete, politician and actor Nikolay Valuyev. The guests got to see a breathtaking snowmobile show and a concert of a popular Russian band “Nogu svelo!”. In January 2013 we continued the tradition of celebrating the World Snow Day – an outstanding and exciting sports and culture event supported by FIS.
In February and March the slopes of the Rosa Khutor resort welcomed 11 test events of Russian and international level, including stages of the World Cup in snowboard and freestyle — it was the first time ever in the world when competitions in all Olympic snowboard and freestyle disciplines were held at the same time. There were 62 competitions — a scale comparable to the Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games of 2014. In total almost 1800 athletes participated in the pre-Olympic competitions held at “Rosa Khutor” ski resort.
Fourteen of the scheduled competitions, including slopestyle, were cancelled by the decision of the FIS representatives and organizers of the competitions due to unfavorable weather conditions.
Rosa Khutor resort finished the season by a never before seen “operation” for conservation of 450 000 cubic meters of snow which can be used for Olympic competitions next year. It may safely be said that in the Olympic season the slopes of Rosa Khutor resort will be ready to receive athletes from all over the world in any weather conditions!
The resort has several intense summer months ahead. This time will be used to complete the construction of the Mountain Olympic Village for 2600 residents at Rosa Plateau, service infrastructure facilities and one more hotel at Rosa Valley, as well as the commissioning of new ski lifts.
At the same time the resort will be open for excursions. On May 1st-12th, three main lifts will be open for excursions: “Olympia”, “Zapovednyy Les” and “Kavkazskiy Express”.
